Fraud/Unfair & Deceptive Trade Practices

The ways in which fraud or unfair and deceptive trade practices may be committed are limited only by the imaginations of the ill intentioned. Whether facing a con-artist or an unscrupulous business, it is important to know your legal rights. Under North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 1D, punitive damages may be awarded in an amount up to $250,000.00 or three times the actual damages - whichever is greater. Similarly, a successful claim under North Carolina General Statutes Chapter 75 for unfair and deceptive trade practices will entitle the plaintiff to recover treble (triple) damages plus attorneys' fees.
