Jennifer Shephard is originally from Long Island, New York, but relocated to North Carolina in 2017. Prior to attending law school, Jennifer attended Hofstra University where she was pursuing a degree in Business Administration. Jennifer was a member of Phi Alpha Delta and competed in mock trial competition at American University in Washington D.C. In her final year, Jennifer was offered the unique chance to attend Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center prior to completing her undergraduate degree.
While attending law school, Jennifer worked full time as a paralegal. During her final year, Jennifer spent the summer studying abroad in Berlin, Germany concentrating on the Holocaust and the Law. It was in law school that Jennifer first became interested in Family Law. After graduating from Jacob D. Fuchsberg. Law Center at Touro College in 2003, Jennifer concentrated her practice in family law representing clients with issues involving divorce and/or separation, domestic partnerships, custody, support, domestic violence, paternity, and many other family situations.
After practicing family law in New York for over 14 years, Jennifer relocated to North Carolina to continue to help clients navigate what is one of the most confusing and challenging aspects of their lives. Jennifer was admitted to practice law in North Carolina in February 2020 and has concentrated her practice on family law ever since.
After litigating family court cases for over 18 years, Jennifer realized that too often family Law clients faced with a variety of emotional situations that cannot be addressed by the court process. Divorcing parties often spend thousands of dollars in legal fees arguing about pets or furniture that has little to no monetary value. Jennifer then became involved as a member of Charlotte Collaborative Divorce Professionals The collaborative law process is built upon open and transparent disclosure and sharing of information with participants, face to face honest discussion and negotiation and preservation of relationships between the parties. Rather than being combatants in an adversarial proves, participants in the collaborative process are a “Collaborative Team” that works together to reach a common goal.
Jennifer understands the anxiety and stress family court matters generate by nature and values creative solutions that are unique for each family. She uses her legal background, personal experience, and down-to-earth personality to help clients through an extremely difficult time whether litigating in a courtroom or negotiating in a conference room.
When Ms. Shephard is not working, she enjoys travelling and spending time with her husband and two small children while enjoying all that North Carolina and the Lake Norman have to offer.
